Afghan Youth Conference on Climate Change
(18 Mizan 1403 / 8 October 2024 – Kabul, Afghanistan)
On October 8, 2024 (18th of Mizan 1403, Solar Hijri Calendar), the Climate and Environment Coordination Platform (CECOP) and The Liaison Office (TLO) organized a conference titled “Afghan Youth on Climate Change” in Kabul. The event brought together over 100 knowledgeable and active young people from academic and environmental institutions.
The youth were divided into five groups to discuss key topics such as climate challenges, strategies to address climate change, the role of youth in climate decision-making, and financial opportunities for implementing climate projects.
The outcomes of these discussions were later presented by representatives of each group in a specialized panel to participants and officials. After the presentations, officials responded to the challenges and concerns raised and emphasized the importance of youth involvement in combating climate change.
The conference concluded with the adoption of a resolution stressing the necessity of active youth participation in national and international climate decision-making, enhancing awareness through community leaders and youth, and strengthening cooperation with national and international institutions to mobilize support for climate change programs in Afghanistan.
