Workshop on Climate Change and Forest Conservation
(7 Asad 1403 / 28 July 2024 – Gardez, Paktya Province, Afghanistan)
On July 28, 2024 (7th of Asad 1403, Solar Hijri Calendar), the Climate and Environment Coordination Platform (CECOP) and The Liaison Office (TLO) organized a one-day workshop titled “Climate Change and Forest Conservation” in Gardez, the capital of Paktya Province. The workshop, which coincided with World Nature Conservation Day, was attended by representatives of the Forest Conservation Association of the province, university students, community elders, and other relevant institutions. The main objective was to raise awareness among participants on key environmental issues, particularly the impacts of climate change on forests and the role of forests in combating climate change.
At the beginning of the workshop, participants received comprehensive information about World Nature Conservation Day, the importance of protecting nature, and proper methods for conservation. This was followed by technical presentations and information sessions on climate change, its impacts on forests, the importance of forests in addressing climate change, and their role in mitigating natural disasters.
In the final session, group work was conducted, and each group shared the outcomes of their discussions with the rest of the participants.
Participants expressed their satisfaction with such initiatives and requested more similar programs to further expand their knowledge on environmental topics. They also committed to sharing the knowledge gained with other members of forest management associations.
