Climate Change and its Impacts on Afghanistan

The Climate and Environment Coordination Platform (CECOP) and the Liaison Office (TLO) organized a conference at the Serena Hotel in Kabul to mark the beginning of World Climate Change Week. The conference brought together over 200 experts, researchers, government officials, and international partners to discuss the dire effects of climate change in Afghanistan and how to mitigate them. Rising temperatures, droughts, floods, and melting glaciers are some of the most important impacts of climate change affecting Afghanistan's economy, agriculture, water resources, and human health.

In the short term, speakers discussed the importance of developing drought-resistant crops, improving natural resource management, and investing in early warning and disaster preparedness systems.

In the long term, a comprehensive and sustainable climate change adaptation and mitigation strategy focusing on renewable energy, climate-resistant infrastructure, and international collaboration is needed.

By taking coordinated actions, Afghanistan can reduce the worst consequences of climate change and build a more sustainable future for its people.
