greenhouse gas and its impact on human life
Most of us might have heard that it is said “no pain no gain”. It is a fact that the humans to achieve today’s civilization, they paid hugely to attain it; industry, technology, civilization, and respect to human values are the key indicators of the modern civilization that humans have achieved. The question is that what was the cost of achieving all these? Did the industry and technology as the two main means of modern civilization of humans’ life cost the vulnerability of other sectors are at least endangered the vulnerability of other sectors? Have todays’ human achievements in industry and technology brought positive outcomes or had negative consequences for humans?
We all know the positive outcomes of today’s industry and technology on human lives and have experienced them in our lives. For instance, the car we ride every day and the television we watch the world from and the computer, internet and all other machines and plants that we have heard of and used them.
So, what is our perception and knowledge about the negative consequences of the industry and technology? Do we know anything about greenhouse gas? If we do not yet know anything, then let’s know something about it and if we know about it, let’s have a review of it so that we can remain safe from the threat because of it.
Greenhouse gas is composed of four gases including carbon, methane, carbon monoxide, and fluorocarbon. These are gases that are available in the environment related to the earth. However, with the activities of big industrial factories, these gases are produced more than the normal natural level and are released to the atmosphere of the earth and create a general layer in the earth’s atmosphere. When the industrial layer of the greenhouse gases built up in the earth’s atmosphere, the temperature of the earth cannot go up and will accumulate under this layer which ends up in unnatural warmth of the earth’s atmosphere. These gases are called greenhouse gases because these four gases compose most of the natural gases in the closed space of greenhouses. Greenhouses are covered with plastics in winter in order to store these gases and maintain the temperature inside the greenhouse warm and the flowers remain fresh even in winter.
“The main impact of the greenhouse gases is that the earth’s temperature goes up beyond the normal limit. With the increase of earth’s temperature, the ices in the North Pole melt faster in an unnatural way which increases sea level, this has been a huge warning to the human life since 1992, the first international conference about the environment. Even though the Kyoto Protocol, which was held in 1997, obliges all big industrial countries of the world to reduce the production of greenhouse gases, but serious practical actions have not yet been taken in regard”
The Kyoto Protocol is an international protocol that aimed at reducing the production of greenhouse gases, which is considered the main factor of earth warming in the last several decades. This protocol complements and amends the 1992 Rio convention that was developed in the framework of the United Nations. In recent years, an increase in the greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, water gas, and nitrogen oxide in the earth’s atmosphere has increased the temperature of the earth which could cause unpleasant changes in the environment. Big industrial countries pledged in the year of Kyoto protocol was signed that they will reduce the greenhouse gases by five percent in 10 years and will provide financial assistance to the developing countries to increase their use of renewable energy such as solar and wind but in reality, most of the parts of the protocol have not yet been enforced, therefore, the production of greenhouse gas is one of the main concerns of humans on earth.
One of the negative impacts of the greenhouse gas is the depletion of the ozone layer in the atmosphere, the layer which prevents harmful radiation of sun towards the surface of the earth and does not let the air and gas in the atmosphere of earth flee from the earth.
In general, there is consensus that the production of greenhouse gas causes changes in the climate on earth. These changes cause harm to the health and safety of human life in various sectors and areas.
