lead (pb) a soft poison and killer
We all somehow know that the impact of the dust and polluted air is mainly on the respiratory system of humans and the mucus on the nose and eyes.
People who are exposed to dust in long run could get chronic respiratory diseases as well as sore throat and eye itching. However, what are the harms of Lead on humans which can be found in abundance in fuel, before responding to the question, let’s talk about Lead, what is it?
Lead is silvery-blue color metal. This metal is one of the environmental pollutants in the modern world due to excessive use in industries. This metal suspends in the air with small particles of dust and enters the water and food of humans. Lead has no vital role in the human body but could cause serious harm. Lead absorbs in the body protein and plays poisonous or never system and brains. Lead replaces Calcium in the cells and interrupts the role of Calcium that plays in the body; it weakens the relation of nerve cells with other cells and interrupts the heartbeat and contraction of muscles and causes harms to the safety of bones during the production of blood and interrupts kidneys functions.
Humans have contact with a minimal amount of Lead including all other pollutants through eating and drinking. But what we all know is the existence of Lead, the soft poison, and killer in the air, in the air, the more air polluted the more Lead exists in the air.
Lead is one of the most stable and most spreading heavy metals of the environment and in case of the contact and absorption of the handy amount could be poisonous to humans. As there is no benefits or role in the vital systems of human, thus far, people shall be protected from Lead and the public shall be informed about their habits in order to avoid exposure to Lead.
High amount of Lead clearly have the ability to negatively impact the central nervous system, but due to several confusing factors which impact children’s intelligence and nerve behavior, it is difficult to diagnose that the children are poisoned with the Lead.
Even so, it is better to have some information in this regard. According to experts: Air pollution is due to the movements of the vehicles, one of the main factors in lack of development of children. Experts say: “Air pollution can impact the development of the fetus in the uterus”
The findings of these experts show that the probability of insufficient development of that fetus is high if their moms are exposed to air pollutions in the early and last days of pregnancy. We can simply say that air pollution could have an unpleasant impact on the health of humans, particularly children, and pregnant women. Lack of sufficient development and mental retardation of the fetus could be air pollution, particularly the existence of Lead. Contact of children with Lead could cause inability memorizing, mental retardation, problems of seeing and hearing, and even a small amount of Lead could have dangerous consequences which could be seen in the long run. The presence of Lead in the body causes delays in the rehabilitation of the brain after causing damage to the brain and could cause cancer, increased problems in high blood pressure, mental disorder, negative impact on concentration and causes muscles and joints pain.
Where Lead can be found:
- Paints: Lead exists in the house paints, particularly old houses
- Water: Lead has been used in water pipes in some houses.
- Sports equipment: Lead has also been used in some sports equipment.
- Food dishes: Some dishes such as crystal and low price dishes consist of Lead.
Therefore, we can say that the dishes for cooking and food have an impact on the quality and safety of life.
Lead poison could happen through breathing dust and or air in the plants, fuel station, or working on heavy traffic roads and under crowded bridges. Even though the use of Lead fuel is on the decrease, but is still considered one of the air pollutants. The peeled paints of walls and the structure of windows and doors of the house which are accessible to children and the sports equipment are the factors of poisoning. Suspended particles of Lead can enter the body through air and food. 50 percent of Lead in the air can be absorbed into the body through breathing. While the absorption of Lead in food and water is 11 percent in the intestine. Empty stomach and fatty food increase the absorption of Lead. Absorption of children is higher than adults and could reach 75 percent of swallowed Lead. In people with malnutrition and lack of Calcium and Iron the intensity of absorption of Lead increases. The Findings of some research show that the effects of some pollutants are felt years after being exposed to the pollutants.
These researches show that exposing the brain to Lead could cause the brain to be 5 years older than it really is.
20 years ago the level of Lead dropped suddenly but the widespread impact could still be seen. According to the experts that some of the early aging which is called natural is actually because of environmental factors such as Lead. Lead salts enter the environment through vehicles. Large particles precipitate to the earth and mix up with soil and water and pollute water while the small particles move long distances and remain in the air. Some of the Lead falls to the earth during rain. The cycle of Lead by humans is wider than the cycle of Lead by nature. That is why Lead has polluted the whole world.
Only fuel is not the cause of increased Lead density in the environment. Other human activities such as burning fuels, industrial achievements, and burning solid wastes cause environmental Lead pollution.
Lead enters water and soil used in the water pipes. Lead does not break but only changes to other forms. Health practitioners and researchers advise that people shall increase consuming milk and water in polluted air because milk reduces the level of absorption of poisonous items. In addition, using more fluid helps reduce the effects of poison.
