Climate and Environment Coordination Platform

Climate and Environment Coordination Platform (CECOP), formerly known as ENRMN, is a volunteer group of environment activists, experts, and social activists working towards the betterment of the environment and natural resources in Afghanistan. The platform was established in December 2012 in an initiative by 18 civil society organizations. The initial aim was to ensure effective coordination, advocacy, and oversight over the peaceful and sustainable extraction and exploitation of natural resources in the country. The platform's primary objective was to monitor the extraction of mines and its impact on the local communities, their livelihood, safety, and well-being. However, over the years, it has encompassed monitoring of environmental aspects of natural resources. CECOP envisions a safe environment, sustainable use of natural resources, and climate-resilient communities in Afghanistan. CECOP's mission is to create a safe environment, promote sustainable use of natural resources and build climate-resilient communities in Afghanistan through advocacy, awareness, research, and capacity building activities. The platform aims to contribute to advancing Afghanistan's prosperity by working with local communities and stakeholders to achieve its goals. The platform's goal is to establish an effective coordination platform among environmental, natural resources, and climate change civic players such as NGOs, civil society organizations, experts, and activists. To achieve this goal, the platform has set objectives for environment, natural resources, and climate change. These objectives include ensuring effective communication and coordination among civic players to contribute to protecting the environment, ensuring sustainable use of natural resources through capacity building and awareness interventions, and enhancing and strengthening the resilience of communities through climate change adaptation interventions. Currently, CECOP has 60+ members from different provinces all over the country, which includes representatives of NGOs, CSOs, academic institutions, experts, social activists and a women's group, and is working to further expand its members.
