Climate change is real, and it is happening!<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing our planet today. The evidence is clear \u2013 our planet is warming, and human activity is the primary driver.<\/p>
Climate change is a complex issue, but it is one that we must all educate ourselves about and work together to address. The Liaison office and the Environment and Natural Resources Monitoring network organized a one-day academic seminar on environment and climate change on 5th<\/sup> December 2022 at Kabul to explore the science behind climate change, the impacts it is having on our water resources and agriculture, and what we can do to mitigate its effect.<\/p>
The seminar was attended by more than 130 participants, including university students and lecturers from different universities in Kabul, environment activists, NGO representatives, and government officials. The seminar was a good opportunity for the participants to learn new information about the subject and discuss it with the presenters.<\/p>
M. Amanuddin Amanyar, the head of the forestry directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that the forest cover area of Afghanistan was estimated at 2%, but the new statistics show that the forest cover area of Afghanistan has decreased to 0.7%, which is undoubtedly affected by climate change.<\/p>
Prof. Abdul Ghias Safi, dean of the Geoscience faculty, presented a comprehensive presentation on the impact of climate change on the water resources of Afghanistan. The presentation was followed by a technical presentation on the climate negotiation and benefits of COP 27 for Afghanistan from Eng. Ezatullah Sediqi, Program Director of the REHA organization, he pointed to the importance of such conferences for the parties.<\/p>
Mr. Sayed Ahmad Khalid Sahibzada, head of the rangeland management directorate, presented a presentation on the impact of climate change on agriculture and rangelands in the country, and Prof. Sayed Kazim Hashemi shared a comprehensive presentation on green consumerism to the participants at the end of the seminar.<\/p>
